American Optical Eyewear earned its leading reputation for outstanding optics and frames as a key supplier to the US military and NASA. In 1958 the company developed Flight Goggle 58 now known as the Original Pilot©. These glasses provided military pilots with maximum protection, comfort and performance. These original pilot sunglasses have protected thousands of pilots from blinding glare.
Original Pilot sunglasses were honoured to be the first ever sunglasses to land on the moon worn by Commander Neil Armstrong and the crew of the Apollo 11 in 1969. Between 1943-1944 three million pairs of American Optical sunglasses were made and supplied to the US military.
Today all American Optical products are still manufactured in South Bridge Massachusetts, USA as they have been for over 130 years.
